We moved to this 3 acre property in Naples so we could own and occasionally breed dogs. We made many improvements to this property to make it safe for people and small dogs to live. We also made improvements to make it hurricane proof and now have a generator so everyone stays cool when the power goes out. For the last 10 years I have followed the Collier County Animal Ordinance, State of Florida Ordinance, and the rules of the American Kennel Club. I have passed any and all inspections. I am finally coming to the realization that Collier County does not want any dog breeding. They have a shelter that is overflowing with Pitbull mixed dogs, they think people will adopt their Pitbull mixes if there are no pure bred dogs available. Every inspection with them was a struggle, even though they could never find anything wrong. The AKC inspections were very pleasant.

Going forward, my breeding females will live with a friend in a more pet friendly county in Florida. From the mating to the time they are weaned, they will live away from my house. After they are weaned I will act as a foster home to introduce them to dog food and socialize them while they wait for their forever homes. I think it is important that there is preservation breeding, so these rare dogs don't cease to exist. I will post pictures here in the future. I personally need to be surrounded by these furry anti-depressants and I know other people need these dogs in their lives too.

Training

If you need to confine your puppy:

Please have a pen similar to this set up before you pick up your puppy. This pen provides a safe environment with everything they need. This is the type of pen they are using here, from weaning to pick up. They need to have access to food and water 24/7 to prevent hypoglycemia. They are trained to use the potty pad starting at four weeks old. While you can not take them into the grass until the shots are finished, any exposure to soil or standing water, from being in a lanai or deck will expose them to parasites like Giardia and Coccidia.

Any type of crate training would be inappropriate until they are 6 to 8 months old and at least 6 pounds. Confining a toy puppy to a crate will result in hypoglycemia and death within three days.
